URGENT APPEAL (NOVEMBER 2025)
25 Orangutans Trapped Between Mines — Help Save Them Now
DONATE NOW
Twenty-five orangutans, including nine infants, are currently stranded in heavily fragmented forest between two mining concessions in East Kalimantan. With their habitat reduced to just a handful of tiny forest patches, they are at immediate risk of starvation, isolation and conflict. This emergency appeal will fund their rescue, medical care, and safe release into protected habitat.

Among the 25 are 5 adult males, 8 adult females (including one mother with twins), 7 juveniles and subadults, and 5 individuals identified only through nests and feeding traces. All are now confined in dangerously narrow strips of vegetation between open-pit areas, reclaimed zones, and hazardous road edges.

The Cost of Saving Them
The full emergency rescue operation for all 25 orangutans is estimated at €21,000.
This includes:
-
Skilled rescue teams
-
Safe sedation and transport
-
Immediate veterinary care
-
Relocation to safe, suitable habitat
-
Post-release monitoring to ensure their wellbeing
Every stage of the rescue from pre-assessment to sedation, transport, and release into safe forest is prepared and ready to begin as soon as funding is secured.
The danger these orangutans are in increases each day as the entire group struggle to find food and water. The orangutan mothers cannot find enough fruit for their babies, and youngsters are wandering into hazardous areas.
Any donation, no matter how big or small, is vital to fund our rescue missions, provide medical care, and support the rehabilitation and release of orangutans back into safe, protected areas of forest.
Did you know that £5 provides a rescued orangutan with their first proper meal and hydration. Sometimes our orangutan rescues have been surviving on very little for weeks, so this first meal is so important in helping it to start to start to get its strength up again.
